Kailub Russell started slow, but battled from 15th position to take the win with a commanding 27 second lead over second place.
Grant Baylor rode well and won his GNCC XC2 race by 3 minutes.
Kacy Martinez may already be crowned 2014 GNCC WXC champion, but that didn’t stop her from battling back to take the top step at Unadilla.
Hurricane Mills, TN – Factory FMF/KTM rider Charlie Mullins took a hard fought win against his teammate Kailub Russell at the sixth round of the GNCC Racing Series held at Loretta Lynn’s Ranch. Joining Mullins at the top of the podium were his teammates Grant Baylor and Kacy Martinez taking the victories in the XC2 Pro Lites and WXC classes.
In the XC2 Pro Lites class, Grant Baylor had an 8th place start off the line. He quickly moved up to 3rd place by the end of the first lap. On the second lap he was able to make a pass for the lead and never looked back. He went on to lead the remaining laps and took the win by 37 seconds over the 2nd place ride of Ricky Russell. Baylor now holds the points lead heading to the next round.
In the WXC class, Martinez came out first around the opening corner and never lost her lead position. She led all four laps of the race to take her fifth win of the series over fellow KTM rider Sarah Baldwin. She now holds an 18 point lead in the championship standings.
GNCC competitors Kailub Russell and Grant Baylor also collected wins in their respective classes at the legendary Snowshoe round in West Virginia. XC1 rider Russell needed half of the race to recover from an early crash, but he eventually caught race leader and teammate Charlie Mullins to take his third-straight win. Mullins held on for second and still leads the overall points standings.
XC2 class rider Baylor started up front, but had a battle on his hands as rival Jason Thomas took over the lead after the second lap. For several laps, the two riders checked in less than a second apart, but Baylor’s pass on the last lap allowed him to come across the finish line with his third win of the season. He now has a 19-point lead in the XC2 class standings.
Thor’s Kailub Russell backed up his win at the seventh round of the GNCC season with another impressive ride at Round 8 in Masontown, W. Va. Russell had his work cut out for him as he headed into the woods close to last off the start, but he was able to gain control of the race by end of the first lap. After seven grueling laps on the muddy, technical track Russell came across the finish over three minutes ahead of second place. Russell’s new win-streak and consistency throughout the season has helped place him second in the championship standings, just five points out of the lead.
The rider Russell is chasing in the points is teammate and fellow Thor MX rider Charlie Mullins, who put up a fight on the final lap of the race to come away with a podium finish in third. Mullins’ four wins and three additional podium finishes so far this season have kept him out front in the championship chase.
Thor’s XC2 rider Grant Baylor made it to the podium for the sixth time this season, but it didn’t come easy. Baylor came around the first lap in seventh place and continued to charge over the course of the three-hour race to finish in the runner-up spot. Baylor currently leads the XC2 class standings and has a 14-point lead over second.
Women’s class rider Maria Forsberg collected her fifth win of the season during the morning races, helping her to move back atop the standings into a tie for first. In addition to capturing the huge win in her class, Forsberg also earned her best overall result of the season in third.

Thor’s Kurt Caselli, Charlie Mullins, and Grant Baylor all found the top of the podium over the weekend, bringing home wins at the National Hare and Hound and GNCC races.
Starting the weekend off was Caselli, who collected his fifth-consecutive win at Round 7 of the National Hare and Hound in Jericho, Utah. Caselli holds over a 30-point lead heading into a two-month break for the series. Teammate Ivan Ramirez seemed to find his way through the Utah desert just fine, leading for over half the race before scoring his second podium finish of the year in second.
Closing out the weekend on Sunday, Thor’s GNCC stars lined up the sixth round of the series in Springville, Ind. For the fourth time this season, Mullins grabbed the XC1 class win, with teammate Kailub Russell finishing second. Mullins now leads Russell in the championship by 19 points with a lot of racing still left during the 13 round series.
In the XC2 class, 16-year-old Grant Baylor broke through for his first victory of the season, making him one of two riders to score a pro division victory at such a young age. After proving his speed with several podium finishes, Baylor captured a much deserved win and closed the gap to the points leader where he sits only seven points behind first.
Adding to Thor MX’s dominating weekend, Thor riders Kurt Caselli and Charlie Mullins won their respective races at the AMA National Hare and Hound and the AMA National Enduro.
In Johnson Valley, Calif., Caselli has wasted no time in reminding his competition why he is back-to-back AMA National Hare and Hound champion. After a DNF at Round 1, Caselli added a third victory to his season with a win in Johnson Valley and now holds a 15-point lead after five rounds. Teammate Ivan Ramirez bounced back from a tough race at the previous round to finish on the podium with Caselli in second.
Thor’s Charlie Mullins made it a perfect April, winning both GNCC races and AMA National Enduro races that took place during the month. His latest win at the National Enduro in Westpoint, Tenn. on Sunday was another dominating one, winning by 1 minute and 23 seconds.
Mullins’ teammate Grant Baylor continues to adjust well to his first season of the series, scoring a sixth-place finish in Tennessee.
