The penultimate round of the FIM MX World championship series has attracted over 25.000 spectators as well as 319 riders who took part in the 4 day special edition MX GP festival in Matterly Basin UK.
THOR’s Jeremy Van Horebeek claimed a strong second moto podium finish with second place however a nasty first turn crash in moto 1 kept the Belgian from an overall podium. The incident also affected team-mate Gautier Paulin as he was hit in the start but pushed hard to recover to 9th. A strong, consistent performance in moto 2 saw the Frenchman end 5th. David Philippaerts was enjoying his recent string of solid results and 7th in moto 1 ensured that the Italian was a force to be reckoned with. Unfortunately for DP19 he got caught under his bike in a pile-up before the wave section and he had to retire in moto 2.
Christophe Charlier had a wonderful turn around of a tough weekend on the rough chalked based Matterly track. A crash in moto 1 left Charlier with only a handful of points but the Corsican quickly changed that when he got to the front in moto 2 and never looked back. Charlier controlled the race and took a commendable victory. Matterly also marked the return of Arnaud Tonus who has missed most of the 2013 due to injury. The CLS Monster Energy Pro Circuit rider was pleased with in 8th in moto two and will be looking to build hisspeed and strength to contend for the 2014 MX2 title. Team-mate Alsessandro Lupino matched Tonus with 8th in moto 1 but had to retire in Moto 2 while holding 6th spot.
The final round of the 17 round FIM MX World championship will take place on the treacherous and demanding sand circuit of Lierop 7-8 September in the Netherlands.
